The Colonial Legacy

Quite by chance I caught a Radio 4 programme about the early days of Guyana (formerly British Guiana). A recently discovered document shows that two powerful moneybags countries conspired to keep the popular, democratically-elected leader Cheddi Jagan from leading the post-independence country.

Of course there’s a whole back story – do have a look online      http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00tj74v#synopsis or catch the R4 programme while it’s still around. But before I leave you, who wants to guess which two early 60’s superpowers did the dirty on the Guyanese? Fill in the gaps: U _ A and U _. But you knew anyway, didn’t you?

How cold is my valley?

Who I am
