In search of the floating voter

On Sunday, Calderdale Greens took to the waters. A kindly person had offered the use of her canal boat, of which there are many in the Calder Valley. We festooned it with Vote Green stuff, and chugged along the Rochdale Canal to Hebden Bridge’s marina. This being a sunny Sunday, said marina was rather full but we found a mooring, shooed off the geese and had a picnic, as illustrated. We attracted loads of attention from landlubbing voters (though as usual in Hebden on a Sunday, hardly any of ‘em were local!)
Meanwhile I was in conversation with the Anne the Captain, who is a floating voter in both senses. I asked her about the best and worst aspects of boat life: she had no hesitation in saying that she’d loved learning so much about conservation, but that British Waterways were the bane of her (and other boaters’) lives!
Pettifogging bureaucracy – dontcha just love it?
