Posthumous Green Award

In the week when a left-wing Chilean President is replaced by a right-wing one, it seems fitting to commemorate Salvador Allende. Most people will know that he was the democratically elected left-winger who was ousted by a CIA-sponsored coup on 11 September 1973 (the first 9/11). He died during the bombing of his palace, in uncertain circumstances, and Chile was taken over by the delightful General Pinochet. Many years later, Jack Straw let the General go…on compassionate grounds!
